Mavericks win boys' basketball regional !!!
At Mazon. The MVK Mavericks boys' basketball team made some clutch free throws late in the final quarter to captured the class 2A regional championship 41-37 over the Herscher Dragons. MVK's Anthony Hasse made two free throws with :30 left to give the Mavericks the lead for good. Brody Harty then made a game saving steal on the defensive end and Mathew Grushkin sealed the victory at the free line. Hasse led MVK with 12 points. Harty tossed in 8 points with six rebounds while Wyatt Aldrich and Devin Bryant contributed 9 and 7 points respectively. "This was a great game between two outstanding teams from start to finish. Tonight, we made our free throws and Hasse making his free throws under that much pressure was awesome, even after Herscher called time-out to ice him", stated Coach Walker. "I thought Michael Rhodes gave us some great minutes off the bench tonight on the defensive end while Harty sat with foul trouble and Michael scored four points and grabbed five rebounds too", stated Coach Walker after the game. The Mavericks (13-9) will now play Ford Heights Cottage Grove UGS on Wednesday night in the sectional game being hosted by Bourbonnais St. George at 6:00 pm. |
