The MVK Mavericks 7th & 8th grade boys' basketball teams hosted the Grand Ridge Mohawks on Wednesday night.
In the 7th grade game, the Mavericks jumped out to a 20-9 half-time lead and cruised to victory 47-29 to pick up their seventh win of the season. Trey Hauch led the balance attack with 17 points and 5 steals. Ethan Brockman chipped in with 10 while Chase Hauch added 9. Brayden Roe made a 3 point basket and finished with 6 points in the game. "It was a nice way to end the first half of the season with a victory. With the holiday break upon us, it's important to continue to work hard in practice during the holiday break to prepare for post season play which begins in January", commented Coach Walker.
In the 8th grade game, the Mavericks struggled on the offensive end the entire game which resulted in a 25-10 setback to the Mohawks. "The boys' coming off an emotional win at Saratoga last evening didn't help much as the entire team came out flat. Playing our third game in three nights with tired legs is a recipe for defeat and it happen tonight", commented Coach Walker. "We just have to regroup during the holiday break and start preparing for our next game on January 5 vs Reed Custer", added Walker.
Both teams finished the first of the season with 7-4 records.
